“He seems to have taken a liking to you!” Vittori can’t help but laugh as the monkey dances around Garrett’s shoulders. “Look, him and I don’t really see eye to eye, so if you want you can keep him.”

Garrett glares at Vittori. “I didn’t risk my life back there not to get paid.” Vittori laughs again to avoid squeaking in fear. It’s a squeaky laugh.

“You may find that he pays for himself.” With a silent hand gesture, Vittori enlists the little monkey to jump off Garrett’s shoulder, walk up to two women talking about the Gloom at a far booth in the bar, and slide their bracelets from their wrists without them noticing.

Garrett’s eye glints.
